Accessories: The Finishing Touch Your Outfit Needs!
Your outfit sets the stage, but accessories? That’s where the magic happens. A wide‑brimmed hat can add drama, sunglasses bring instant confidence, and jackets can shift your whole vibe in seconds. Even a simple tie, bracelet, or crossbody bag can add personality and texture to your photos.

Accessories aren’t just about adding sparkle—they’re about adding you. For some seniors, that’s a pair of layered necklaces or hoops. For others, it’s a chain necklace, a favorite watch, or even a hat that instantly feels like “them.” Guys, this is your lane too! I’ve had seniors bring prayer beads, sunglasses, and ties that completely changed the mood of their photos. The right accessory—no matter how simple—can turn an everyday outfit into something that feels intentional and photo‑ready.

These pieces help you look pulled together without feeling overdone. Whether your style leans edgy, boho, sporty, or classic, accessories are what make your senior pictures feel authentically you.
Ready to see how? Here are some of my favorite ways to work accessories into your senior session looks.

Outfits, Add-Ons & All the Extras—Right Here in the Style Closet
When I started the Style Closet, the goal was simple: make senior sessions easier and way more fun. Most clients don’t have every accessory they’d like to use for multiple outfits, and honestly, you shouldn’t have to buy a ton of new things just for photos. That’s why I keep hats, sunnies, jackets, jewelry, and bags on hand—so you can borrow what you love and try looks you might not normally wear.
During planning, we’ll go through your outfits together and figure out which accessories will pull everything together. Maybe a hat works with two different looks, or maybe sunglasses make your casual outfit feel a little edgier. Mixing and matching accessories gives you variety in your gallery without needing a full outfit change.
In this photo of Emma, we paired her top with a hat, belt, and sunglasses…all from the Style Closet!

Top It Off: The Hat Trick That Always Works
A good hat can change everything. It frames your face, adds texture, and instantly makes a simple outfit feel styled. Wide‑brimmed hats photograph beautifully outdoors, fedoras add vintage charm, and even bucket hats or baseball caps work for a laid‑back look. For some seniors, it’s the first accessory they grab; for others, it’s the piece that makes them say, “Okay, now I feel like I’m in a photoshoot.”

For guys, fedoras or flat‑brim styles can add polish without going full suit—and they look great paired with a tie or layered jewelry for extra personality.

Sunglasses: The Coolest (and Easiest) Accessory for Senior Photos
If you’re feeling even a little camera shy, sunglasses are your new best friend. They instantly add confidence and edge while giving you something fun to do with your hands. Pop them on for a few shots, pull them down for a smirk, or let them rest on your head for a laid-back look. I’ve got a pair of daisy sunnies that practically have their own fan base at this point—they’ve shown up in multiple sessions because they’re just that fun. Don’t be afraid to mix classic black with quirky shapes or colors to show off your vibe.

Guys love them too. A simple pair of shades can make a button‑down look modern or bring edge to a casual tee—and they pair perfectly with cars, outdoor settings, and even layered jewelry. Want to try a pair? You’ll find them in the Style Closet!

When you’re planning to accessorize, try to think of the pieces you’ll get the most mileage out of. Can you use them with more than one outfit? Can they be dressed up or dressed down? Grab outfits that can work with or without a hat & with or without sunglasses, mix and match to create several looks from one outfit!

As much as I love sunglasses, this pair might be my all-time favorite. The “Hello Boys” lettering above the lenses adds a flirty, playful vibe to Alex’s photos, and let’s be honest—they’re total scene-stealers. These sunnies are a standout in the Style Closet and already a top pick for so many clients. The second I saw them at Target, they went straight into my cart. (Target wins again. Always.)

Instant Upgrade: How Jackets Change the Whole Vibe
Jackets are the ultimate accessory when you want to stretch your outfits without bringing an entire closet. They add texture, layers, and personality—whether it’s denim, leather, or something with extra detail like bling or fringe.
For girls, a denim or faux‑fur jacket can take a simple outfit from casual to standout in seconds. Toss it over a sundress for cozy texture or layer it with jeans and boots for a laid‑back vibe.

With just one outfit and a couple jackets, you can mix things up for three completely different looks — no extra outfit changes required ! It’s the perfect way get senior pictures for guys who want variety without overpacking.

Ties: From Classic to Edgy, They’re Not Just for Suits
Ties completely shift the mood of senior photos. For guys, they can make a button‑down or vest look formal—or loosen it up for a relaxed, confident vibe. Solid ties feel timeless, while stripes or subtle patterns add personality without being too loud.

Paired with sunglasses it adds polish but still feels modern—perfect for everything from graduation announcements to framed prints for family.

And yes—girls rock ties too! A simple black tie paired with a crisp button-down (like this look) creates a bold, fashion-forward vibe that stands out from the typical senior outfit. Ties can also be styled preppy with a blazer or used to add a pop of color or pattern if you want something more playful. Whether sleek and minimal or bright and fun, they bring personality and variety to your senior pictures without needing a full outfit change.

Bags, But Make It a Moment
I don’t always think of bags as a go-to accessory for senior pictures… until one of my girls shows up with the cutest little crossbody or tote, and suddenly I’m obsessed. Bags are a fun way to add color, texture, or even a little nostalgia—especially when they’re paired with a more candid, lifestyle setting like a fair or market. One of my favorites? A teen at the Arizona State Fair with her favorite purse and cotton candy. It gave us natural, playful poses and made the session feel totally her.

Jewelry: Small Details That Make a Big Impact
Jewelry might be small, but it shows up in a big way in photos. Think layered necklaces, stacked rings, or bold hoops for girls; for guys, simple chains or leather bracelets can elevate even the most basic outfit. It’s all about picking pieces that feel personal and intentional—not distracting.

Trendy is fun, but too-trendy can date your photos fast. So instead of going full glam, stick with classic pieces that you actually love—like layered necklaces, a dainty ring, or a pair of bold-but-timeless hoops. These little details can add texture and sparkle without taking over your whole look.
And if there’s a piece that means something to you, bring it! I’ve photographed everything from class rings to heirloom necklaces, and those details make your session even more special. One session included matching necklaces for mom and her senior—a simple detail that turned into one of the most meaningful shots from their gallery.

Crosses, Rings & Rosaries: Meaningful Details That Matter
Faith‑based accessories are some of the most personal things you can include for your senior pictures. Cross necklaces, purity rings, prayer beads—they all tell a story that goes beyond fashion.

Whether you wear them every day or bring them just for your photos, I’ll make sure they’re styled thoughtfully and photographed in a way that feels authentic to you.
