Amazing Photographer for Maricopa Senior Pictures | Ideas for Basketball Players

You have a lot of choices when it comes to choosing a senior photographer, so when LeeAnthony's family drove from Maricopa, AZ I wanted to squeeze in as much as possible! During his years at Maricopa High School, LeeAnthony played basketball so I wanted to be sure to include some creative basketball images that I knew he'd love! Be sure to scroll down to see the before & after of one of my favorite images from his gallery!

Maricopa High School Senior Pictures

I know you have a lot of choices when it comes to choosing a senior photographer, so when I have families willing to drive 45 minutes from Maricopa, that really is saying something. Like many young men, LeeAnthony probably wasn’t excited about senior pictures, until I asked what he loves to do. Basketball!!! Oh we can definitely incorporate that! He also loved areas near the water and wanted to bring his dog. We were able to fit all that in and more!

Bring A Friend or Sibling

It likely has been years since you’ve had family portraits, so feel free to bring your brother or sister to your portrait session for just a few quick shots! Although I’m sure Teareya wasn’t planning on hanging out the whole time, she ended up staying with us but she was a great assistant and helped LeeAnthony with some fashion choices!

Bring Your Dog for Senior Pictures

I hate saying this, but many of our seniors have beloved dogs that they’ve had for many years. We all know our furbabies don’t live nearly as long as we’d like, so please, I’m begging you. PLEASE bring your dog to your senior portrait session! These portraits might be the only ones you’ll have of the two of you together and they will be greatly cherished by your family. And on a lighter note, hello cuteness!!! Seriously, he even smiled for us!

Bring Your Car for Senior Pictures

Oh yes, a clean red Lexus brought out lots of smiles for LeeAnthony! We didn’t really have a spot planned but after over a decade of scouting the East Valley I can always find something! I wish I had a behind-the-scenes shot of this area. Nothing more than a dirt road, probably near an entrance to a community, but it worked great for what we needed! I love it when my teens bring cars and I have a full gallery filled with ideas for senior pictures with cars! If you love this idea, make sure you read 5 Tips for Bring Your Car for Senior Pictures too!

Creative Senior Portraits

Again, being a professional senior portrait photographer, I have ideas! Lots and lots of ideas that I really want to try! This was inspired by an image that popped up in my Instagram feed. I saved it (yes, I have collections of ideas, poses, and outfits for inspiration) and had this vision in my head waiting for the right senior. I love everything about this! Believe it or not, this picture was taken before the first set of basketball images…it was definitely still light out. With the proper knowledge and equipment, I was able to create dramatic lighting and I love the end result. This was definitely one of their favorite images and we printed a large 16×20 silk wall portrait for their wall that showcases their children’s sports careers!

In photography, it’s important to begin with the end in mind. Because we were outdoors, I had to use my knowledge of lighting to create this image. Check out the before and after images below so you can see the creative editing that is available for your senior portraits.

Sadly, LeeAnthony’s father, Mike Hill, passed away on February 18, 2022. I was honored to have met Mike and his family and continue to pray for Brenda and the kids, knowing that Mike was their rock. I enjoyed reading Mike’s daily prayers and seeing pictures of his family together.

  • I really enjoyed strolling through LeeAnthony’s senior photos and blog. The senior pictures are sharp and strike a fun balance between interests and family. Loved the basketball and car photos. Loved the photos with Teareya and their adorable canine family member too! Well done!!

    • Thanks Andrea! Yes, LeeAnthony and his sister are very close. It was really a fun mix! It’s not often I get to meet the family, the dog, and capture so many wonderful things in one senior portrait session!

  • I love how you strive to capture your seniors so perfectly and share where they are in life and what is important to them. You beautifully capture who they are. I love your Maricopa senior portraits. Your seniors and their families are lucky to have you!

    • Jeanine, I’m so glad that comes across in my images. These kids are sooooo important to me, and once I meet them I always want to keep up with them! Many of my seniors have gone on to have successful sports careers, graduate college, enter medical/law school, and start their careers. I love watching them grow!

  • First off I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question if you don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or hints? Many thanks! Trisha

    • HI Trisha! I’ve found that if I set aside time for writing my blog posts I am much more efficient. I keep a list of possible topics and portrait sessions that need to be written too so I always know what my next posts will be. I’ve also hired a few writers to help when I get too far behind they help me get caught up. LOL, that leaves me more time for photo shoots!

  • Hi! I’m at work surfing around for my new apple iphone! Just wanted to say I love reading through your blog and look forward to all your posts and photos! Keep up the great work!

    • Hey there! I’m so glad you enjoy reading about my senior portrait sessions! I try to update every week so be sure to check back often!

  • I love your helpful list of ideas for seniors, but my favorite by far for senior photography is your creative take on photos! The basketball and senior in profile is stunning! Stellar! Award winning photo! This is photography at its best. Using all the skills to make the best photos. It’s no wonder you are the choice photographer in your area!
