Help! I Can’t Afford Senior Pictures! What Should I Do?

Let's be honest: senior pictures can get quite expensive. As a senior photographer with over 15 years of experience, I understand that I'm not in everyone's budget. However, I don't want high costs to prevent you or your senior from capturing this important milestone. Here are a few ways get the best price for senior pictures.

Can’t Afford Senior Pictures? Try These Tips:

Tip #1: Inquire About Off-Season Pricing Photographers are often busiest during peak times, often when the weather is nice. That means I’m swamped from October-April and those sessions fill up fast! However, if you’re looking to save money, consider having your session in the hot summer months from June-September. Does that mean we go outside? Sometimes, but not always. We have lots of options for indoor sessions, or we can watch the weather for a cooler day once monsoon season hits. Morning sessions are also a great option during the hot summer months.

Tip #2: Look for New or Student Photographers Consider reaching out to new or student photographers who are building their portfolios. These photographers often offer lower rates as they are looking to gain experience and showcase their work. You can find them through local photography schools, community college programs, or online platforms where emerging photographers display their work. Not only can this be more affordable, but you may also discover a fresh, creative perspective that captures your senior photos uniquely.

Tip #3: Consider a Group Session While solo senior sessions are popular, splitting a session with a friend can be a fun, cost-effective alternative. You’ll split the time, session fee, and collection costs, and everyone wins! Note, this option is available only for daytime sessions.

Tips to Save Money on Senior Photos

Tip #4: Ask About Payment Plans This has been the best option for my clients! PayPal offer a convenient payment plan for senior pictures, allowing you to spread the cost over 6 months with no interest. This plan ensures you can enjoy and cherish your senior portraits without the financial strain of a lump sum payment. By choosing this option, you can order your portraits today and pay in manageable installments, making it easier to get the senior pictures you’ve always wanted!

Tip #5: Take Your Own Photos If you have a creative streak, consider taking your own senior photos. Many high schools offer camera rentals to students, so check if your school has a similar program or ask a friend if you can borrow their camera. You can also rent photography equipment locally from Tempe Camera. Doing it yourself can save you hundreds of dollars and might even spark a new hobby or skill!

By exploring these options, you can still capture beautiful senior photos without breaking the bank.

Arizona has some beautiful locations for senior pictures in the East Valley. Recently, I talked to Marissa, who graduated from Red Mountain High School in 2020. It's always great hearing from my grads! Marissa is just oozing with personality, so her family chose the ultimate senior portrait session which includes both day time and night time pictures. Such an epic session I thought it was time for an update!

From a photographer's point of view, San Tan Village in Gilbert, Arizona, is a modern, open-air space that’s full of opportunity.
