It’s no secret, hair is a huge part of a teen’s identity, but keeping it soft free from damage isn’t always an easy task. Everyone’s hair is different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to your haircare routine, but these tips will help!

Damaging your hair can be done easily, whether that’s using too much heat or bleaching your hair too often. These tips will help you be proactive in finding ways to avoid damage.
1. Clean your scalp regularly
It’s highly important to clean your scalp regularly. This is to help clear all of the dead skin that often sits on the top of the scalp and for some, might not budge without a bit of assistance. Cleaning your scalp involves giving your scalp a good massage with shampoo.
When it comes to your haircare routine in the shower or bathtub, use a bit of shampoo to work through the scalp. You might want to use a scalp massage tool in order to work in the product so that you’re getting right into the scalp, rather than just deep into the hair follicles.
Once you’ve cleaned through the scalp, rinse off the shampoo and continue your routine. Consider a scalp treatment in order to focus specifically on the scalp, rather than the rest of the hair.
2. Try a hair mask
Hair masks are a great way to indulge your hair in some much-needed care. While shampoos clean your hair and conditioner helps to moisturize your hair, a hair mask helps nourish and replenish your hair, providing deep conditioning that can improve its texture and shine. These treatments are designed to address specific concerns such as dryness, damage, or frizz, leaving your hair healthier and more manageable. Looking for a great one? Try Olaplex Intense Moisture Mask.

You only need to apply a hair mask every 2-4 weeks, but are typically left on for 3-5 minutes. However if you have rough or dry hair, consider letting it sink in for 20 minutes, or even overnight. Hair masks can be applied and left to pamper your hair while you study or get other things done around the home. It’s a great way including necessary self-care without much effort.
3. Avoid heat
Heat is one of the main killers when it comes to damaging your hair. Of course you can use heat occasionally, but using it every day is going to cause damage, even if you’re using heat-protectant products. If possible, find ways to avoid heat when drying or styling your hair. For example, consider these tips for to get heatless curls overnight that have become a popular alternative to using a curling iron.
You might want to use microfiber towels to wrap your hair. Microfiber towels, with their exceptional absorbency, efficiently soak up moisture to help dry your hair without heat. Additionally, they are soft and gentle on surfaces, making them ideal for keeping touchable tresses.

If you do need to use any heat, use it sparingly, make sure to not leave it on the hair for too long, and avoid going over the same piece of hair several times. Uh oh, I’m guilty of that!
4. Detangle your hair
Detangling your hair is an important step to avoid causing further damage to your hair. Never detangle wet hair as it can cause further damage. It’s worth using a detangling brush to gently glide through the hair rather than tugging it through it and causing breakage. Instead, try a detangling product that you can spray or apply to the hair in order to make brushing and detangling easier, especially if you have textured hair or dense curls.
5. Be gentle when towel-drying
Towel drying is a typical part of drying your body after stepping out of a shower or bath. If you are using a towel to dry your hair, then make sure you’re not being too rough with it. While there’s nothing wrong with towel drying your hair, it’s best to gently squeeze the moisture out of your hair with a towel, rather than dragging it back and forth. The best towel? Refer back to Tip #3 and grab a microfiber towel! If you’re too rough while towel drying your hair, you’re likely to cause more damage.

6. Get regular trims
To maintain your beautiful locks, don’t put off those regular trims, even if you’re trying to grow it out. Ideally, getting a trim every 6-8 weeks will keep your hair looking healthy and encourage growth. While it might be a costly for regular salon visits, your hair will thank you for keeping those dead ends at bay. When choosing a stylist or salon, finding someone you trust is critical in order to feel confident, especially if you’re not someone who gets regular haircuts.
7. Take hair supplements
Finally, hair supplements are a good option when you want to nurture your hair health. Whether you want to add shine, build volume, or grow it out, taking hair supplements can help. Be sure to research various hair supplements to find ones that work best for your hair type.
In the quest for luscious locks, embracing these strategies is your key to unlocking a world of vibrant, healthy hair. By incorporating these mindful practices into your routine, you not only preserve the beauty of your strands but also ensure a radiant, damage-free future for your crowning glory. Here’s to healthier, happier hair days ahead!
