Gilbert Family Photographer

As a Gilbert family photographer, I’ve chosen to be low volume so that I can really focus on each family, each client, and get to know them. When that happens, these “clients” become more like friends, which is definitely the case with Kim and her family. Kim was a referral from another client and originally she wanted to schedule an engagement session. Let’s just say that was one of my favorite sessions ever!! Knowing that I don’t take many families, Kim asked anyway. She stressed the importance of this since she is a self-proclaimed picture person and has put it off for long enough. Too long unfortunately, and in that time her mother-in-law had passed away. I don’t want to guilt anyone into doing this, but think about how many good pictures you have of your family. I mean really beautiful pictures. Of your family. Together. Enjoying each other. It doesn’t happen much so I wanted to be sure we get it right and make the process as easy as possible.

In Person Consultation

When I first started out as a professional photographer, I made some mistakes. Don’t we all? Part of the problem was just taking as many sessions as possible, doing the photo shoot, and handing over the images. That meant that I often talked with people only via phone or email, and met them for the first time right before their family pictures. People are already uncomfortable in front of the camera, so I want to do everything possible to ease your stress. By meeting in person, we get to know each other. In fact, I don’t ever book a session without meeting in person. I want you to be 100% comfortable with me, the process, the ideas, and the investment.

So the goal for the session was to get all the extended family and grandparents together for a photo shoot. While I do get all of the basic “perfect” poses, I also use various lenses and mix in candid shots to be sure to tell the complete story.

Family Pictures with Grandparents

Please, please, please…if the grandparents live close by, bring them to your family portrait session! If they’re visiting, try to squeeze in a photo shoot while they’re here. These are the images that will be passed down through generations, cherished by the whole family. Do it now, while everyone is alive and healthy. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so schedule it. Figure it out, find the money, bribe dad. It will be worth it, I promise!

“It’s OK, I have plenty of pictures of the parents and grandparents.” – No One Ever

A Quick Reminder

Yes mom, the pictures are your dream so please enjoy this time. Your children don’t care what you look like, if you’ve gained a few pounds or a few wrinkles. They love you and will be so glad to have these pictures as the years go by. It’s important for them to see the love and be reminded of it with beautiful family pictures in your home.

Amazing Gilbert Family Photographer Parents

Bring The Dog

Meet Bindy. She’s the important one and she knows it. Much like parents and grandparents, our dogs do not live nearly long enough. So bring them along! Everyone always warns me about their dog not listening. Seriously? Got this shot in less than 5 seconds. I have my ways…and she’s even smiling!

The Perfect Family Portrait

It may not be what you think. When clients come to me, many think they want that “perfect” picture of everyone smiling at the camera. But is that really your family? We have fun together when we’re out shooting, so you can bet there will be some goofiness, perhaps including dad trying to hind behind a branch. Nice try, Mark! This was about 5 minutes into their session and he was already giving me a hard time! From then on, I knew these were my type of people! I don’t want a whole bunch of “sit and stare at me with a fake smile” pictures. I want the kind real smiles, authentic emotion, and the kind of laughs you can hear in the picture! The expressions that mom looks at and says “yep, those are my girls!”

Sisters

This is Kaylynne and Ally, two of the sweetest young ladies you’ll ever meet. A sister is worth a thousand friends, and that is certainly true with them! They played along with all my goofy requests and probably thought I was a little crazy. And for my Big Bang Theory fans out there, I’m not crazy. My mother had me tested!

Signature Image Box

Our Signature Image Box has been retired and replaced by our all new Luxury Image Box available in both 5×7 and 11×14! Of course, both sizes offer double sided prints so you’ll have lots of options!

Almost every portrait session I’ve done has resulted in clients having too many favorite images and really not a great way to display or store them.  For years, storyboards and wall displays have been a favorite, but this year, when I was contemplating adding a new product, I really wanted something that was made it easy to display and change images.  I’ve had image boxes before, but typically they’re for standard prints and don’t always have a place to store a USB.  This product however, has the option of a false bottom, making the perfect location for the USB as well as a couple of bamboo stands!  Of course that lab only offered standard prints, and I really love our 5×7 double sided silk prints, so I just combined them into a single signature keepsake product that was introduced for the Spring 2017 season.  I was ecstatic!

Decorate Your Home With Custom Artwork

So far this year, it has been our most popular product!  I’m all about showing off your portraits rather than leaving them to collect dust in a desk drawer.  One of the most popular combinations is the 5×7 Signature Image Box complete with 2 bamboo stands, a custom USB, and 20 double sided silk prints. That’s 20 pictures!  Of course your favorite is on the cover, and the USB holds any digital files that you have purchased and/or the premier slideshow which also showcases all your images set to music and ready to watch at any time.

Our 5×7 Signature Image Box comes with 2 bamboo stands as well as a custom cover, so at any time you can easily display 3 of your favorite pictures.  The other pictures fit neatly in the box to avoid damage, and can be swapped out at any time.  Do you have a hard time decided which pictures to display? Me too!  With this option, you don’t have to choose!  You can just walk by and decide to flip over an image and show the other side!  Better yet, since we offer these double sided silk prints in several sizes, many of our clients are adding on 8×10 or 11×14 so images can be displayed in multiple areas of their home or office.

More Pictures Please!

And then it happened. I had a client who wanted MORE than 20 images…in fact Brandon’s mom wanted them all!  I called the professional lab we use for the custom boxes to see what other sizes they offered, and now we offer an upgrade to a larger box that holds at least 20 double sided prints! Tou don’t even have to worry about making selections!  Talk about a dream come true!  Look at this variety!!!

Each double sided silk print has a 2mm mount so images are sturdy and won’t warp or bend.

Winter Wonderland in Phoenix, AZ

The Whitehead family brought out their winter gear and we transformed a small area in Gilbert into a winter wonderland!  Cade and Kel are just too cute in their snow gear of course, and the best part is that Kelle’s winter scarf isn’t actually a scarf…it is a pair of pj pants!  I love it when my clients think outside the box!  These are just a few images from their family portrait session.  At their reveal session, they chose to create a beautiful custom storyboard of just their snow images!  It will be displayed during the holidays and winter months, and then it will be switched out for their favorite family portrait the rest of the year!  Simply amazing!  Want to see more of our snow portraits and get other creative ideas for your photo shoot?  Just check out our new “Themed” gallery of images!

Gilbert Family Portraits in the Snow

As a Gilbert family photographer, I’m always trying to learn new skills so I can provide the highest level of quality and creativity for my photo shoots. I have played with snow images quite a bit in the last few years, but over this past holiday season I had a client request them for her family.  Typically these images are done with just one of two people, often for BFF teen photo shoots.  I’m always up for a challenge, but adding snow in Phoenix? Wouldn’t it be easier to just head north to Flagstaff?  Well, not in this case!  After a sleepless night, I gave in and sat at my computer editing at 2:00 a.m. until I finally got the results I wanted.  Until now, my snow photo shoots have only been of one person, so getting realistic results of a family of 4 was a bit of a learning curve.  After about an hour playing with some new techniques, I knew I had gotten the images any family would love!  One key aspect is being prepared for a photo shoot in the snow.  Winter coats, hats, and hot cocoa are perfect for these family pictures and help create fun memories as well as beautiful portraits!

This kid is such a ham!!  Kel played it up just perfectly when I asked to him to pretend he was freezing in the cold snow!  You’d never know that he’d been with his new family for less than a year!  Now that is an amazing story, and one I’ll hopefully be sharing soon!  A beautiful happy ending and perfect fit for this little guy and his family!

Family Keepsake Storyboard

What good is it to have memories you can’t display?  You’re busy, and it takes time to sort, measure, order, and print your family pictures.  Don’t stress, Magical Memories by Michelle has a ton of beautiful products that are easy to display!  There are many samples to see in person and sizes so you can visualize what fits best in your home.  In this case, Kelle had a 20×30 frame in her kitchen.  Of course we did beautiful family portraits too, but during the winter season she can display these amazing snow pictures of her family!  It really does look like it’s snowing, doesn’t it?  I promise, it wasn’t!  I love how the kids pretended to be cold and the family had pretend hot cocoa!  It really made these unique family pictures come to life!
