Amber’s donut senior pictures in Gilbert, AZ were full of personality, from downtown portraits and graduation details to prom photos, JROTC images, and the cutest, yummiest, sprinkle-covered props!

When you know, you know. At least that’s what Amber’s mom told me after our first session together. Amber is the third graduate in their family, and according to Elena, the girls’ mom, she knew they wanted to come back to Arizona and have Amber’s senior pictures taken by the same photographer her sisters had used…ME!

Amber’s older sisters, Bree and Ashley, graduated a few years ago, and we took to the streets of Downtown Scottsdale for their senior photos. So getting to celebrate Amber’s graduation before her family moved to Oklahoma felt extra special. I always love seeing my favorite families when their next teen is ready for senior pictures!

That’s one of my favorite things about photographing siblings. Every senior is completely different, but when the same photographer creates each session, there’s a little bit of consistency that helps everything work beautifully together. Each session still feels personal to that graduate, but the finished portraits also look amazing displayed side by side at home.

And Amber? She brought the personality, the outfits, the cap and gown, the JROTC details, and yes…the donuts.

Soak Up the Sunshine

We kicked off Amber’s senior pictures in Downtown Gilbert with a casual look that felt easy, sunny, and completely her. She wore light denim, a black top, and rose-colored sunglasses, which were basically perfect for a bright Arizona afternoon.

A simple park bench, a relaxed pose, and one little hair flip gave this part of her session such a fun, carefree feel. Nothing too complicated. Nothing too fussy. Just Amber, great light, and the kind of smile that makes every photo feel effortless.

And can we talk about the details for a second? Her hair, makeup, nails, accessories, and outfit all worked together without taking over the photo. That’s exactly what I love about senior pictures that are styled well. You still look like you, just a little extra polished and camera-ready!

Accessories That Change the Whole Look

Amber handled the bright Arizona sunshine like a pro with a floppy-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and the cutest little details. And you already know I love a good hat! They’re practical, they photograph beautifully, and they can change the whole feel of an outfit in about two seconds.

I’ve had so many seniors tell me they’re “not hat people”…until they try one on. Then suddenly it’s giving confident, stylish, senior-picture-ready energy.

For this look, Amber kept everything polished without going over the top. The hat framed her face beautifully, the sunglasses added a playful touch, and her jewelry gave the outfit just enough sparkle without stealing the show.

And can we please take a tiny moment for those nails? GORGEOUS!!! From head to toe, Amber was ready for her senior pictures, and all those little details helped give her gallery so much variety.

Graduation Details Worth Celebrating

When you’re celebrating graduation, we absolutely have to show off a few graduation details!

You can bring the full cap and gown, just the graduation cap, or even a few small pieces like your tassel or class ring. It all counts! These are the little things that say, “Yep, I did it!”

Amber held her cap so the ’22 charm on her tassel showed perfectly. And yes, I absolutely pay attention to that. If we’re using your grad cap, I’m going to make sure the year actually shows in your photos!

I also loved that Amber coordinated her dress with her school colors. Not in an obvious, matchy-matchy way. Just enough to make everything feel pulled together.

Tiny detail? Maybe.

But those are usually the things that make senior pictures feel extra special.

A Year to Remember

Amber’s senior year had plenty to celebrate.

Art club. Junior ROTC. Friends. Graduation. Big decisions about what comes next.

When her family described her as happy and outgoing, I could absolutely see it. That kind of personality shows up fast in senior pictures, especially once we start adding the pieces that actually matter to them.

For Amber, that meant her graduation tassel, her favorite outfits, her JROTC uniform, and the people and memories that made high school feel like home.

And when I asked what she would miss most?

Hanging out with her friends.

I’ll never forget one of my favorite behind-the-scenes moments from this session. Amber turned into a giddy five-year-old, spinning like a princess and saying how pretty she felt. It was the cutest moment!

And that’s the goal with every session! Not just the beautiful senior pictures, but the fun moments that you’ll remember from the experience.

Her dress shimmered in the Arizona sunshine, her updo showed off those gorgeous earrings, and the whole look added such a polished, dressy feel to her gallery.

That’s one of my favorite things about senior pictures. You don’t have to choose just one version of yourself. Casual jeans? Yes. Graduation details? Of course. Prom dress? Bring it.

The more variety, the better!

Looking Glam for the Big Dance

Close-up prom portraits are always worth it! I mean, the perfect hair, accessories, and just feeling pretty is absolutely something you’ll want to remember!

The dress gets the big moment, of course, but the details deserve their own spotlight too. The makeup. The earrings. The hair. The smile.

And Amber?

She looked gorgeous.

I love these tighter portraits because they show the full look without needing the whole dress in the frame. Her glam makeup, soft curls, sparkly earrings, and that blue dress all worked together beautifully.

Then she gave me both versions: the sweet smile and the serious model face.

And that’s exactly what I want during senior pictures.

Give me the happy, glowing, “I feel pretty!” smile.

Then give me the quiet, confident, could-be-on-a-magazine-cover look too.

“Donut” Worry About Being Silly

Some of the best senior pictures happen when you stop worrying about looking perfect and just have fun.

And when donuts are involved? Even better!

Amber was totally game for the silly shots, and I love that. Those playful little moments are usually where the real smiles show up. Not the “my mom told me to smile” smiles. The actual, real smiles!

So yes, we’ll take the polished portraits.

But if your personality calls for sprinkles, goofy faces, or peeking through the middle of a donut?

For Amber, that meant sprinkle-covered donuts, playful smiles, and a few perfectly silly photos that showed off her fun side. She peeked through the middle of a donut, laughed through the goofy moments, and gave us the kind of real expressions you just can’t fake.

That’s the whole point. Senior pictures should be polished, yes. But they should also feel like you.

JROTC Senior Pictures with Meaning

Amber’s JROTC images added such a meaningful piece to her senior gallery.

She brought both her formal uniform and fatigues, and we created portraits with the American flag that felt strong, proud, and completely connected to this season of her life.

For Amber, Junior ROTC was a big part of her high school experience. She’s dedicated, ambitious, and already thinking about a future that may include the military, so these portraits mattered.

This portrait of Amber with the American flag felt like the perfect way to wrap up her JROTC images.

Strong. Confident. Thoughtful.

The light coming through the trees gave the photo such a beautiful glow, but what I love most is the way Amber carries herself. There’s so much pride in this image, and you can feel how much this part of her story matters.

I love watching these families grow, catching up on life after graduation, and hearing what everyone has been up to since the last time they were in front of my camera.
